House with a Small Orchard is a three-bedroom house on a compact site, with nearly half of the property set aside for a small orchard. The house is positioned towards the south-western edge of the site, leaving the north-eastern portion open for the orchard. It opens towards the garden and the neighbouring farmland to the north, which becomes a borrowed landscape extending the sense of openness beyond the site.
The living, dining and kitchen are conceived as a continuous sequence of spaces, rather than as separate rooms. Opening towards the orchard and the northern landscape, this arrangement allows for cross ventilation, natural light and a greater sense of spatial continuity. A small courtyard shared by the living and dining spaces introduces another layer of outdoor space within the house, with a miniature fishpond forming its centre.
The house is organised as two wings, with a two-storey wing towards the south-west and a single-storey wing towards the north-east. The lower wing keeps the house at a more intimate scale towards the orchard and entry, making the building less imposing from the garden. The arrangement allows the house to settle into the site, with the orchard, courtyard and surrounding landscape shaping the experience of the home.
